Hard Cider Press - SOLD OUT

Thanks for a great response. We are SOLD OUT of cider from this press.

Each fall we do a custom cider press specifically for hard cider makers (including us at Paradise Valley Orchard). The custom blend includes varieties that give a balanced semi-dry cider. This years blend includes 60% neutral base apples (Honey Crisp, Red Free and Harlason), 15% tart (Wealthy and Jonathan), 15% aromatic (Macintosh and Cortland) and 10% astringent for their high tannin content (Whitney crab as well as some wild/unnamed volunteer trees).

We are going to complete the press on Thursday morning October 21. If you are interested in cider from this press, e-mail or phone us to reserve what you need. The price is same $6/gallon, reduced pricing is available for folks who bring their carboy to us before hand (which is encouraged). We ask that you get your containers to us before 9:00 am, we will get them filled and hold in refrigerated storage for pick-up at your convenience.

Driving Directions from Salt Lake City:

NOTE: If you follow your GPS unit you'll end up on a Jeep road that can get very muddy. We suggest you follow the directions below.

Follow I-15 North for approximately 60 - 70 miles, through Bountiful, Kaysville, Layton, Ogden heading towards Brigham City.

Take the first Brigham City exit off of I-15, I believe the sign reads “Logan, Utah State University, US 89". It is the first exit past the only rest area you will pass. Proceed on the off ramp for approximately 1 mile to a traffic light, go straight through the light for approximately 1 mile to another traffic light and continue straight through this light.

After continuing straight through the second light you will be leaving the Brigham City area and starting up a steep grade over the Wellsville Mountains. You will be on highway US 89/91 North.

Continue on US 89 for approximately 10 miles, going through the small town of Mantua over the pass and on into Cache Valley/Logan. Mantua is a notorious speed trap.

After descending over the pass, for approximately 10 miles on US 89 you will come to a traffic light, in the town of Wellsville, at the intersection of US 89 & SR 101. There is a Gas station/Burger King on the left side. Go right onto SR 101 at the light.

Proceed on SR 101 for approximately 6 miles into the town of Hyrum. Be aware that SR 101 takes two “jogs” through Hyrum. If you follow the sign for SR 101/Main Street/Blacksmith Fork Canyon/Hardware Ranch you will be on the correct route. (Note: Turn LEFT at stop sign at the second jog)

Follow SR 101 to the intersection with SR 165 at the only traffic light you will hit. There is a McDonalds, Ridley's market, Chevron at this intersection. Turn right onto SR 165. Note: No longer follow signs for Blacksmith Fork/Hardware Ranch.

Follow SR 165 for approximately 4 miles into the town of Paradise. Note sign: “Paradise 4 Miles”.

When entering Paradise (speed limit sign 40 mph) you go by the Cracker Barrel General store on your left and in 2 more blocks the highway will jog to the left around a large church on your left.

SR 165 will continue for 4 or 5 more blocks to a stop sign. Turn right at the stop sign going towards Avon. Note, prior to the stop sign there is a sign that reads “End SR 165/End State Maintenance”. Ignore this end sign, the highway continues. Follow yellow lines and you will remain on the correct route.

After turning right you will be heading out of the town of Paradise towards Paradise Valley Orchard (PVO). PVO is almost exactly 1.1 miles from the stop sign to the PVO driveway. The address for PVO is 9971 South Highway 165. There is a large 8 foot tall gate across driveway that will be open. The driveway is on the right or west side of the road. There is a large sign for PVO as well as a sign that reads "Apples, Cider, Produce" 1/2 mile previous. The PVO driveway is approximately 500 feet past the LARGE metal garage on the right. If you go to the Avon (town of Avon) sign you have gone too far by about 1 mile.

The phone number for PVO is 435-245-6203 if you get lost. NOTE: There is limited cellular phone service south of Hyrum.
